Purpose:
This tutorial helps you discover the relationship between flow-rate and pressure drop per length of pipe for a Newtonian fluid.
The Problem:
You are an engineer for the company "Pipeline Chemicals Inc." Your boss asks you to design a pump and pipe configuration to deliver a raw material fluid from a supply tank to a customer's reactor. The fluid must be delivered on-demand over a wide range of flow-rates, because the customer does not want to build a holding tank. To correctly size the pump, you want to know the pressure drop per length of pipe over the entire flow-rate range required by the customer. In other words, what pressure drop will result from a given flow-rate of the product fluid?
