This simulation gives a qualitative example of what flow patterns might look like in turbulent flow.
Note that the fluid motion is chaotic. There is no apparent pattern to the velocity profile. Fluid moves not just in the x direction, but also in the radial r direction as well. Note that there are swirling patterns in turbulent flow. This kind of swirl is called an eddy in fluid mechanics.
